middle eastern cuisine

not far to the west of Haji Babas is the Cafe Istanbul
and Market. I haven't eaten there, but it looks like
a good place, with a few seats outside. The parking lot is
also a park and ride spot for the light rail, for riders
who get on at the Dorsey station.

word of mouth

one of my favorite places to eat in tempe is
haji baba's. this middle-eastern restaurant, located on
Apache Drive between Rural and McClintock, was founded in 1981
and also has a little store with a huge selection of mediterranean,
persian, indian, middle-eastern and european foods. it is
a simple little place in an old strip mall, the kind that only
attract a "word of mouth" crowd. since i'm heading out
to the field tomorrow, i'll schedule a post from inside
the store for tomorrow.

RA

Tempe has several sushi restaurants. Ra has great sushi and super happy hour prices. Salmon nigiri and shrimp tempura are two of my favorites.

PF Chang's China Bistro

PF Chang's China Bistro on the corner of Mill Avenue and University - a great place for dinner. We ate Wontons, Dumplings, Crispy Honey Shrimp, and Mongolian Beef with brown rice. Mmmm Mmmm. Happy Birthday Andre!

Sundays at Wildflower

Most Sundays I eat at Wildflower Bread Company at the southwest corner of McClintock and Guadalupe. Get there early or you'll have to stand around waiting for a seat. Their food is great and it's a relaxing place to spend a morning reading the paper or doing a crossword.

People Watching at Casey Moore's

No smoking indoors these days. This tattoo'd gal in lizard skin cowboy boots reminded me of a groupie character from the movie, "Almost Famous." The shorts, tshirt, hairstyle, sunglasses, boots, and cigarette are sooo 70s.

Mucho Gusto Mexican Restaurant

Mucho Gusto Taqueria & Mexican Bistro is a stylish mexican eatery located just a few blocks west of downtown Tempe, Arizona. Mucho Gusto prepares and serves numerous gourmet authentic Mexican dishes and some of the best margaritas in town! One of my favorite restaurants, with a great outdoor patio. The old Chevy pickup sits just outside.

Classic Car

A broken down truck in front of a great restaurant near downtown. I took several shots of this so I'll post a couple more over the next couple days. I am enjoying getting out in Tempe to take photos and am noticing things I'd not really paid attention to before. Like this red truck parked outside one of my favorite restaurants.
